Sharia Methodology

The Approved Islamic Scholarly Framework of the Iraqi Zakat Platform

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Rooted in Islam's careful organization of Zakat and its commitment to fulfilling its higher objectives, it was essential that contemporary applications of this obligation be built on a solid scholarly foundation — one that unites the authenticity of classical jurisprudence with precision in applying it to modern reality.

From this foundation, this methodology was developed to serve as a clear framework — one that users can rely upon with confidence when fulfilling their Zakat, with the ability to reference detailed evidence and rulings in the relevant sub-sections.

The Islamic Scholarly Foundation

The Iraqi Zakat Platform is built on a rigorous Islamic scholarly foundation that respects the diversity of established jurisprudential opinions on Zakat matters, while ensuring that clear, applicable rulings are presented for the contemporary context — particularly within the Iraqi environment.

Given that Zakat matters are among those subjects where the leading imams of the schools of jurisprudence held varying opinions, the platform adopts the positions preferred by the President of the Council of Iraqi Scholars, His Eminence:

Dr. Mahmoud Abd al-Aziz al-Ani

President of the Council of Iraqi Scholars — may God preserve him

In contested or multi-opinion matters, the position adopted is the one closest to the evidence, most practically applicable, and most aligned with the higher objectives of Islamic law — taking into account prevailing customs and economic conditions.

⚖️

Jurisprudential Selection Approach

Accordingly, the Hanafi school may be followed in certain matters, while in others the Shafi'i, Maliki, or Hanbali positions may be preferred — may God have mercy on them all — based on what is most strongly supported by evidence and most feasible in practice.

Hanafi

Shafi'i

Maliki

Hanbali

No single school is exclusively followed across all chapters. Instead, a considered methodology is applied that combines jurisprudential grounding with practical realism — reinforcing users' confidence in the accuracy and reliability of the rulings presented.

🎯

Methodology Objectives

This methodology aims to facilitate the fulfillment of Zakat for individuals and institutions alike, while preserving the integrity of its Islamic legal foundation and achieving Zakat's higher purposes of justice and social solidarity.

🤲

We ask Allah Almighty to make this work sincerely for His sake, and to benefit individuals and institutions through it, and to grant everyone the ability to fulfill this great obligation in a manner pleasing to Him. He is the Guardian of that and fully capable of it.

May Allah's peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad,

and upon his family, companions, and all who follow his path.
